I Got this kit as a late Christmas present from a customer at work, I have had my eye on it for a long time so I was very eager and excited to start building.
This is the first kit I have ever built from Revell of Germany and I must say I was blown away by the amount of parts and the quality of parts as well.
The body is molded in two pieces of black plastic and is absolutely beautiful. The detail and overall finish of the body is top notch. There was almost no imperfections to fix before primer, the only ones I can think of were little bits of flash on the fender flares but that was easily removed with a 320 grit file from Steven's International.
The wheels for the kit are plated in a chrome finish, which doesn't make sense to me because the actual cars wheels are not chrome. But I guess it makes sense for builders who maybe don't paint their kits.
The tires for this kit are great, nice smooth rubber finish with no center mold line to remove.
Deciding the best workflow for this project was a little difficult at first but after a couple nights of testing and dry fitting I figured it out and started on my subassemblies.
I didn't let the parts dry off enough so I immediately saw where there was still water after the first coat of primer. Not a big deal, I waited for the primer to dry and then I sanded them out and primed again.
All the body work is done and ready for its actual coat of paint.
The drivetrain after painting and a wash. The block was painted with tamiya aluminum and the exhaust headers headers were done with a combination of Tamiya Copper and Tamiya Gold.
The interior was painted with Tamiya Gunmetal Grey and Tamiya Semi Gloss Black. I opted to use Eduard Photo etch seatbelts instead of painting the molded seatbelts on the kits seat.
The interior was a tedious process with upwards of 20 small buttons, bolts and wires to paint many different colors.
This is the kit at about 95 percent done, the decal process was long and very tedious but the results are tremendous. The kit provided decals are great, they come off the backing paper easily in warm water and contour great to uneven surfaces. I prepped every surface that needed a decal with Micro set, placed the decal and then did another coat of Micro set on top.
This kit was awesome to build and remained fun the whole entire time. I would definitely recommend this kit if you enjoy touring cars or just cars that will loll great on your shelf. After building this kit I want to build the matching white one to sit next to it. Thank you for reading, Happy Building!
