Tamiya Nissan Skyline GTR (R33)
This kit went on sale at my work so I decided to buy it and experiment on it. Having built quite a few kits out of the box stock and having decent results I decided it was time to start modifying.
To do the wide fenders I purchased some Evergreen styrene strip, cut it to shape and glued to the wheel wells.
Then to cut back on putty use and sanding I built the flares up with some Evergreen .80 half round stock.
For wheels i decided to use 19" SSR from Aoshima. The wheels and tires are awesome quality and definitely worth the steep price tag.
To get the correct camber angles and to also allow the Aoshima wheels to fit the Tamiya brake rotors I used some more Evergreen tube stock and cut it at the desired angle on the inside edge.
I took the kit spoiler and chopped at it and sanded it to fit a piece of flat styrene stock to achieve a "wangan" style wing.
Drilled some (uneven) mounting holes for the wing and installed it.
Chopped off the kit muffler and installed my own scratch built one.
Even after lowering the kit and putting heavy camber on the wheels the car still sat much higher than I wanted. So I took more styrene stock and got started on a a body kit.
Front lip and side skirts installed.
After a few coats of mr surfacer I started loading the fender flares with 3m Spot Bondo Putty.
Still haven't decided what I want to do with the rear body. Debating between more round style body kit or an aggressive styled rear diffuser.
Got the fenders sanded and smoothed out.
Stay tune for updates! Happy modeling
